Buffer time and buffer days help you control when clients can book sessions with you.
What Is Buffer Time?
Buffer time is the optional time gap between your available booking slots. It creates a pause between consecutive sessions, giving you time for preparation, note-taking, breaks, or unexpected overruns.
What Are Buffer Days?
Buffer days let you prevent clients from booking too close to the current date.
You can use buffer days to skip same-day bookings or block bookings a set number of days into the future. This gives you more control over your schedule and helps avoid last-minute bookings.
For example:
0buffer days = clients can book from today, depending on your availability1buffer day = clients cannot book today, but can book from tomorrow2buffer days = clients can only book from two days ahead
Why Use Buffer Time?
Without buffer time, your sessions can be booked back-to-back. This can lead to fatigue or delays if one session runs long.
Adding buffer time protects your time and creates smoother transitions between sessions.
Why Use Buffer Days?
Buffer days are useful if you do not want last-minute bookings.
They help you:
- Avoid same-day bookings
- Give yourself time to prepare
- Keep your calendar more predictable
- Prevent clients from booking sessions too soon
How Buffer Time Works
When someone books a session, the system blocks out the session duration plus the buffer time afterward.
The buffer is not shown as part of the session to the client, but it prevents another booking from starting immediately after.
For example:
Session length: 60 minutes
Buffer time: 15 minutes
Result: after a 1 PM to 2 PM booking, the next available slot is 2:15 PM.
How Buffer Days Work
When buffer days are added, the system hides booking slots that fall within that buffer period.
For example:
Buffer days: 1
Result: clients cannot book a session for today. The earliest available booking date is tomorrow.
Buffer days: 3
Result: clients can only book sessions from three days in the future.
Setting Buffer Time and Buffer Days
You can set buffer time and buffer days in your individual session settings.
For buffer time:
0= sessions can be booked back-to-back15= 15-minute pause between each session- Any other value = your chosen number of minutes between sessions
For buffer days:
0= no day-based booking restriction1= skip same-day bookings- Any other value = require bookings to be made that many days in advance
Best Practices
Use 0 buffer minutes if you want to maximize availability.
Use 15 to 30 minutes of buffer time if you need transition time, preparation time, or want to avoid burnout.
Use 1 buffer day if you want to avoid same-day bookings.
Use 2 or more buffer days if your sessions require preparation or you prefer advance notice.
Adjust buffer time and buffer days based on the session type. A quick check-in may need little or no buffer, while a coaching, consulting, or advisory session may need more time before and after.
