Welcome. You just created your account — great first step. But right now, you're invisible. Potential clients can't find you, can't learn about you, and can't book time with you.

This guide fixes that. In about 15 minutes, you'll have a live public profile that shows up in our consultant directory and is ready to share with the world.

Think of Consult Now like a professional marketplace — similar to how a great LinkedIn profile gets you inbound, a complete profile here is what turns strangers into booked clients. Clients search for consultants by expertise, read your bio, check your credibility, and then decide whether to reach out.

If your profile is empty or half-finished, they move on.

A complete profile does three things for you:

  1. Gets you found — our search surfaces consultants who match what a client types
  2. Builds trust fast — clients can read your story and see social proof before they ever talk to you
  3. Works while you sleep — clients can book directly without a back-and-forth email chain

Step 1: Let the AI write your profile for you

This is the fastest thing you'll do today, and it's surprisingly good.

When you first log in, you'll see a setup wizard. Here's what it asks:

First, it asks for your LinkedIn URL. Paste it in and hit go. The platform imports your work history, headline, photo, and experience automatically. You don't have to type any of that by hand.

Then, it asks you three questions. Answer them honestly — these are what the AI uses to write your bio.

"What do people usually come to you for?"

Think about the specific problem someone has the moment before they reach out to you. Not a job title — a problem. For example: "They're a founder who's growing fast but their sales process is a mess and deals keep falling through."

"What changes for someone after working with you?"

What's different about their situation six weeks later? Be specific. "They have a repeatable sales motion, a trained team, and they're closing deals faster."

"What are 1–3 career highlights that prove you can do this?"

Facts only — companies, results, numbers if you have them. "Built the sales team at Acme Corp from 3 to 30 reps. Closed the company's first $1M enterprise deal."

Hit submit and the AI generates your full profile: headline, bio, areas of expertise, career highlights, and FAQs. It takes about 30 seconds.

Read it over. It's almost always 80–90% right. Edit anything that doesn't sound like you — the goal is accurate, not AI-sounding.

Step 2: Claim your profile URL

During setup, you'll pick your username. This becomes your public link:

consult.now/yourname

Choose something clean and professional — ideally your name or your name plus a keyword. This is the link you'll put in your email signature, your LinkedIn bio, your proposals, everywhere.

Once you pick it, it's yours.

Step 3: Add your skills and practice areas

Your bio tells your story. Your skills are how clients find you.

When a client searches the directory — for example, "go-to-market strategy" or "fractional CFO" or "executive coaching" — the platform matches them to consultants based on the skills and practice areas you've selected.

After your profile launches, go to your profile settings and add:

Skills — specific competencies (e.g., "Revenue Operations", "Board Presentations", "Change Management")

Practice areas — broader categories that describe your work (e.g., "Sales", "Finance", "Leadership")

Areas of expertise — who you help and how (e.g., "Series A startups", "B2B SaaS companies")

Don't overthink it. Add everything that's genuinely true. More isn't better than accurate, but incomplete is worse than both.

Step 4: Add your first endorsement

Here's the honest truth: clients trust other clients more than they trust you.

An endorsement is a short testimonial from someone you've worked with — a past client, a colleague, a manager — that shows up on your public profile. Even one or two makes a noticeable difference.

You can add endorsements manually, just go to the Endorsements section in your dashboard and fill in the required fields. Clients who book sessions with you will also have the opportunity to send you an endorsement which you can accept or deny. You're in full control.

Step 5: Check your profile looks right

Before you share it anywhere, visit your live profile:

consult.now/yourname

Look at it like a stranger would. Ask yourself:

Is my photo professional?

Does my bio explain who I help and what I do in plain language?

Can someone understand my value in 10 seconds?

Are my skills filled in?

If anything looks off, go back into your profile settings and fix it. This is your first impression — worth spending five minutes on.

Your profile is now visible. Here's what to do next.

Share your link everywhere. Add consult.now/yourname to your LinkedIn bio, your email signature, and any proposal or pitch deck you send. Every link is a potential booking.

Keep your profile current. When you take on a new engagement, land a win, or add a new skill, update your profile. Clients look at recency — a profile that hasn't been touched in a year signals inactivity.

Set up your sessions. Now that people can find you, give them something to book. Creating your first session offering is the next step — even a free 30-minute intro call is enough to start.
